On the way back from lab, I stopped to throw with a few kids (and, apparently, an alum) in the neighborhood.
I got to try the new Daredevil 175g disc (where's my Vox link button?) I bought last week.
Final verdict? A-.
While the plastic feels superior to a run-of-the-mill Wham-O -- the kind that tends not to degrade gracefully when chipped -- I have mixed feelings about the rim-weighted design. Compared to an Ultrastar, the Daredevil ulty disc seems to be more heavily weighted in the rim, with a slightly (but not significantly) deeper, more angular, edge.
This weighting makes it great for push passes, both clock and counter, and gives the disc a bit more stability, but changes the handling characteristics enough to be somewhat noticeable. All in all, it seems like the Daredevil may have an edge for slightly windy play, being a bit more stable in the air and on the way down, but these deltas don't seem to be enough for me to make the switch.
